Told solely and entirely through archival footage and audio spanning from the 1910s to the present day Graven Image traces the construction of Georgia’s Stone Mountain: conceived of the by United Daughters of the Confederacy in 1915, the site of the ‘birth of the KKK’ that same year, shelved during the Great Depression, revitalized in 1954 during the historical Brown vs. Board of Ed case, and finally completed in 1970, Stone Mountain allows for a full century’s worth of reckoning with the motivations and politics behind these celebrations of the Confederacy, as well as their treatment in and by the media.
